After School Rocks -
R.O.C.K. (R- Recreational, O- Objective Learning, C-Cultures and Values, K- Knowledge). This is an after school drug prevention program offered at GYC and off-site locations. This project focuses on teaching youth ages 10-14 years old, the positive side of saying no to drugs. Each Course lasts six weeks and educates the youth on how to say no to peer pressure.
Meeting Dates: TBA - 6 Week cycles throughout the year. After school from 3:30p.m. - 6:00p.m.
Program Established in 1997.
Serves: 30 youth each cycle.

Summer Enrichment Program –
This program is designed to offer youth ages 8-13 a summer full of fun and excitement. On-sit and off-site activities are both planned. Rock climbing, art projects and open recreation are just a few of the on-site activities to choose from. Off-site activities include community service projects and field trips. A few of the field trips taken are canoeing scenic Blue River, Kentucky Kingdom and a three day camping trip to Lake Rudolph and Holiday World.

Youth Advisory Council -
Our youth advisory council is a teen leadership project the empowers youth to make a positive impact on their communities. The elected president of the council also serves as a voting member on the agencies Board of Directors. Throughout the year this group completes several community service projects and works with their peers to develop facility programs here at GYC. They help to make decisions on how we can better meet the needs of the couny's youth. From fundraising to advocacy, they do it all.

Meeting Dates: Fourth Thursday of the month at 7:00pm, Project dates are posted as they are scheduled.

Serves: 30-40 youth.

Mentoring Works -
Mentoring works is a peer-mentoring project that matches youth mentee ages 6-12 years old with a teen match aged 14-18. Each mentor develops a schedule and personal service plan that meets the needs of the mentee that they are assigned. For a mentor to achieve their status as a role model to these children, they have to first complete a six-week internship that covers multiple areas involving the youth they serve.

Meeting Dates: Each match has a developed schedule that meets the needs of their mentee. They meet at least once a week for one hour.
Program Established in 1998.
Serves: 65 youth (265 Mentors trained to date.)

Youth Leadership Harrison County -
This project is a partnership between Leadership Harrison County and The Gerdon Youth Center Youth Advisory Council. The focus is to empower teenagers who have an interest in getting involved in meeting the needs of their local community. Twice a year the program takes a weekend retreat to prepare the youth to become more active leaders in their communities. Once the retreat is complete the group meets for three follow up session, one a month for a few hours each meeting, to build on what they learned and to plan their community service project. The community service project is picked, planned and carried out bye the group. They learn from their results what worked and what didn’t work for their group. A graduation ceremony culminates this program.

Law Enforcement Explorers Post 703 a Town of Corydon Police Project -
Our law enforcement education program is focused on teaching youth interested in this career field, the different aspects of how law enforcement works in their communities. Each youth involved is required to complete each module successfully to move on to the next. Some of the areas they cover are: State laws, physical tactics, personal discipline, crime scene investigation, finger printing, SWAT and several other levels of the police officers duties while serving the publics needs.

Junior Law Enforcement Explorers Post -
The Jr. Explorers post is designed for youth ages 8-14. The Jr. Explores Post meets every two weeks on Thursdays from 5pm-6pm at the Gerdon Youth Center.

Serves 15 youth

Physical Tactics and Rape Prevention -
Our facility offers this program as a community service program for those at-risk individuals who want to learn how to defend themselves during an attack or as a physical fitness addition to your personal workout program. In our state of the art defensive tactics room our volunteer instructor/professionals walk you through every phase of a confrontation and how it needs to be handled to ensure your safety in the end. They teach from the worst possible situation to the basic verbal confrontation.

Venture Crew 723 High Adventure Program -
This program is through the Boy Scouts of America and it allows boys and girls to both participate in all activities. Through out the year these “Ventures” outline what activities they want to become involved in and plan out the project from beginning to end. Some of these activities involve camping, caving, climbing, backpacking and anything to do with the outdoors.

GYC Extreme Team -
Our facility’s rock climbing team has been a nationally seated team since its first competition. Through out the year our youth compete in the American Bouldering Series from October through February. From there they go on to the United States Competitive Climbing Association league from February to August. The team itself is a mixture of youth ranging in ages 8-18. The team meets three times a week Tuesday through Thursday from 5pm – 7pm in our state of the art climbing gym on the east side of out facility. This program is self funded. The youth participate in fundraising activities throughout the year to pay for their supplies and competitions.

Meeting Dates: Tuesday - Thursday from 5-7pm, Competitions fall on Saturdays and Sundays.

Basic Training Physical Fitness (U.S. Army) -
Weekly the United States Army comes in to out facility and offers a motivating fitness project to the youth of our area. From stretching to push ups, our youth learn the importance of motivation and dedication to personal health and fitness. Open to all ages, Sergeant Kenneth Woodward RUNS everyone through a workout that forces you to test your limits and helps you to realize what areas you need to improve in. Once a month the group will travel to Corydon High School Track to test and see what progress they have made.

Brandon's House Counseling Services -
All family’s encounter challenges they have no solutions for. The Gerdon Youth Center in collaboration with Brandon’s House Counseling, offers free counseling services to Harrison County families and youth, through certified counselors.
Meeting Dates: Mondays & Thursdays 5pm-8pm. with flexible scheduling available. Please call for an appointment.

GYC Music Program -
Through grants our facility is proud to offer a multifaceted music program for area youth and volunteers. Our music project is very diverse in what it offers; kids have a choice in learning dulcimer, ukulele, recorder, harp, and guitar.

GYC Art Program -
Through a regional arts council grant our facility is excited to offer a very diverse art program to the youth of Harrison County. Projects include pottery, drawing, painting, child crafts and knitting. The art room is well equipped to meet the needs of each these activities. With the pottery projects, you can let your imagination be your guide and when finished your project can be fired in the kiln on-site at GYC.

Tutoring at GYC -
Youth who are in need of scholastic assistance can visit us here at GYC for one-on-one tutoring. Youth can get help in needed educational areas that they may be struggling or need a little extra help with. On-site peer mentors, staff and volunteers are there to assist in meeting the educational needs of youth.
Meeting Dates: Everyday after school.

Serves: 20-30 youth daily

Computer Lab -
The Gerdon Youth Center has computers available for youth to access for their personal, educational or Internet needs. With six computer workstations available youth should have no problem finding the information they need.

Open Recreation Projects at GYC -
The Gerdon Youth Center offers a long list of recreational activities. You can lift weights and work on your physical fitness in our multifaceted weight room. Playing basketball in our gymnasium seems to be a favorite of many Harrison County youth. Our facility pool tables are free of charge and provide youth with a way to pass time. Other gym activities include volleyball, hockey, dodge ball and kickball.
